Athletics

Students are encouraged to get active during recess, during Daily Quality Physical Education and on our school athletic teams. Participation on Grade 7 and 8 teams is determined through tryouts and criteria established by the coach. The students chosen to represent the school on these teams must be students in good standing. Team shirts and equipment used by the teams are to be properly cared for and returned to the school immediately following each sporting event.

Cross Country

Cross Country is available for September and October. Cross country team members train during morning practices under the direction of Mr. Somerville. Runners participated in the Optimist Run and Logosland Run this fall.  The Cross Country team will resume in the spring attending the Run for Your Life and the Fitzroy Over the Carp Run.

Volleyball

Volleyball season is November/December. Practices take place before/after school. The 2013/2014 teams of Gr 7 and 8 girls and boys participated in their tournaments late November/early December. We are very proud of their efforts and accomplishments. Our Gr 8 girls team made it to the Tournament of Champions this year. Congratulations to all players and thank you to the Coaches; Mr. Somerville, Grade 8 Girls, Mrs. Blokland, Grade 8 Boys, Mrs. Fransky, Grade 7 Girls and Mrs. Staye, Grade 7 Boys. 

Basketball

Basketball starts in January/February for Gr 7 and 8 students. Upcoming tournaments are: Gr 8 girls on February 19, 2014, Gr 8 boys on February 20, 2014, Gr 7 girls on February 26, 2014, and Gr 7 boys on Feb. 27, 2014. Badminton

Badminton practice gets underway after March Break for Gr 7 and 8 students. Practices take place at recess and after school. Tournament will be late April at Fellowes HS.

Track and Field

Walter Zadow holds its own school Track and Field Meet for all students in Grade 5 to 8.  Track teams are organized and track athletes attend the McNab Invitational Meet held in May and the Bill Tyrrell Track Meet held in June.

Soccer

Soccer tryouts and practices typically occur in May/June for our Grade 7 and 8 students. Selected students participate in a tournament held at Mattaway Park. Dates and times to be determined.
